2.000 kilogram hostpial laundry for Tansania
In January 2018, we were able to provide over 2.000 kilograms of bed linen from the Diakoniewerk München to the Benedictines Hospitals in Ndanda, Peramiho and Kilimahewa.
In Autumn 2017, the Diakoniewerk München-Maxvorstadt has started to lease all their hospital supplies. For reasons of storage space, they had to get rid of their current bed linen, handkerchiefs, hospital gowns, operation dressings etc. But since all materials were still in good condition, the hospital management would rather donate them than throw them away. One of the care managers knew Endulen e.V. and asked us, if we had any interest in those items.
In Tanzania, bed linen, hospital gowns and scrubs are very rare in many places and often originate from Hospital liquidations in Europe. The difficulty is, that great amounts of these items can only be shipped in containers. For these shipments, special hygienic standards must be maintained, and special customs regulations are applied. Therefore, such a shipment is only possible with an experienced partner organization.
We contacted the Missionsbenediktiner in St. Otilien. They took care of the items with a partner freight company. In January 2018, almost 1.125 kilograms were shipped to the Benedictines Hospital in Peramiho with a container. A second shipment left in spring 2018 for the other Hospitals in Ndandu and Kilimahewa.
We want to thank the Diakoniewerk München for this generous gift and also the Secretary of the Missionsbenediktiner in St.Otilien for their support.
